Garden Center Assistant Manager

Job Overview

Enthusiastic and results-driven Garden Center Assistant Manager with over three years of leadership and management experience within the Garden Center industry. Demonstrates strong expertise in plant, shrub, and tree care, including maintenance, merchandising, and seasonal planning. Known for exceptional organizational skills, a proactive and positive leadership style, and the ability to work independently while supporting team success. Passionate about delivering outstanding customer service and creating a welcoming, engaging shopping environment. Highly flexible with open availability and a hands-on, team-first mindset, consistently stepping in wherever needed to support daily operations and business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily garden center operations, including sales, stocking, and merchandising to maximize customer engagement and product presentation

  • Lead and motivate staff to deliver outstanding customer service, fostering a positive team environment focused on teamwork and continuous improvement

  • Oversee inventory management, tracking stock levels, and ensuring accurate POS (Point of Sale) transactions and cash handling procedures

  • Provide expert advice on gardening, landscape maintenance, and lawn care to help customers achieve their outdoor goals

  • Adapted quickly to changes in procedures or product lines, maintaining a positive outlook and encouraging others to do the same.

  • Maintain organized displays and ensure the garden center is clean, safe, and inviting for visitors

  • Train team members on retail math, cashiering skills, product knowledge, and effective communication to boost sales performance

  • Handled physically demanding tasks such as lifting and moving inventory (50 lbs or more) safely and efficiently.

  • Maintained open availability to meet scheduling needs, including weekends and holidays.

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience in retail sales or garden center operations with a strong understanding of horticulture principles

  • Knowledge of lawn care, landscape maintenance, and gardening techniques

  • Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customers

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in stocking, merchandising, and inventory control

  • Familiarity with POS systems, cash handling procedures, and retail math to ensure accurate transactions

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of customer service

  • Passion for gardening and outdoor living, with a willingness to share expertise with customers and team members
